Physical description

Design for an aigrette with three plumes, set with cabochon rubies and pointed and faceted diamonds, between crescents of gold rising from a circle of rose-cut, pointed and faceted diamonds, surmounting a large pointed and faceted diamond within a crescent of cabochon rubies, table-cut diamonds and crescents of gold, from an album of jewellery designs. The gold stem has pounced decoration. The album consists of three preliminary leaves of contemporary laid paper (two with unidentified watermarks), forty leaves of vellum and three final leaves of paper corresponding to those at the front of the album. Inserted are nine sheets of paper and three of vellum bearing designs, notes, transcripts of letters etc. 92 pages, full-bound in contemporary calf skin, gold-tooled, gilt edges, with fragments of green silk ties on the fore-edges of the front and back covers. The drawings are in pencil, pen and ink, wash, body-colour and gold.
