Silver Gallery: Depicted on the outer rim of this dish is traditional Portuguese imagery of woodwose (wildmen) fighting lions and monsters surrounded by thick foliage. The central boss and low foot are later additions. Porto was a major centre of goldsmiths' work in Portugal from the 15th century, second only to Lisbon.(26/11/2002)
