Gallery label | Silver Gallery:
There was a long tradition in the German-speaking world of silver vessels in the form of animals, normally with a detachable head so that they could be used as a bottle or drinking vessel. The rococo cartouche at the front of the stand is engraved with an inscription in Arabic script, suggesting that may have been made in an area under Turkish influence.(26/11/2002) |
