This fragment appears to be a portion of a shawl of black woollen material loosely woven and with three bands of diamond-shaped design embroidered in red silk. At the top and bottom there is a line of inscription embroidered in yellow and red silk. A plain red band and black fringe are at the bottom.

Ground: loosely woven plain or tabby wool with a selvedge at left formed from paired warps. Warp: wool, S-twist, about 15 per cm. Weft: wool, slight S-twist, about 14 per cm. Warp fringe, groups of warps S-twisted together. Bands: tapestry-woven band near bottom edge with warp of wool and wefts in silks, no apprceciable twist, of black, red and yellow. Plain woven red silk band at border above fringe. At the top, band with embroidery in yellow and red silk in satin and darning stitches. Three bands with additional "brocading" weft forming a pattern of diamond shapes.
