William Burges embarked on his Long Journey through France in April of 1853. It was during this exploration that Burges pursued a cultivated education of the French Gothic Style. Amiens Cathedral was one of the several buildings that he viewed and studied on this trip.

Physical description

Pen drawing of the north door on the west front of Amiens Cathedral. The portal has a pointed ceiling and notes about decoration in local saints and the zodiac are included.
