Drawing of fountain

Drawing
c.1745-c.1780 (made)
Artist/Maker

Ink, pen, and wash drawing of a large sculptural fountain on paper. The fountain is composed of a large cylindrical basin set upon a low base. A cylindrical shaft is situated in the centre of the lower basin and is decorated in lions' heads, textured relief, and a smaller circular basin at the top. Water flows both from the mouths of the lion sculptures as well as upward from a single jet in the upper basin and falls over the edges of the basins rim. A faint pencil sketch of a male (it is unclear if he is intended to represent a human or sculpture) is drawn standing within the large lower basin holding a fishing pole.
