Object history | Ref: Elizabeth Miller: 'Catalogue 9b forms part of the Lafrery Volume and corresponds to the entry Libro de fresi et fogliami in Lafrery's stocklist of 1573 (Ehrle, p. 59). The double numbering of pairs of prints that occur together on one page in the Lafrery Volume indicates that these images were always intended to be printed together... Impressions of ten of the plates in Catalogue 9b but before the addition of the Roman numerals are in the Escorial collection. These plates, E. IX, 35. (446) and E. IX, 37.1-9(4448-54,4456-7) correspond to plates III upper, IIII lower, V upper, VI upper and lower, VII-IX, XI and XII in the set described [in this volume].' |
Production | Reissue of original series by Monogrammist F. (of which V&A has one plate: E.2529-1929), renumbered and with sixteen new subjects. |
