Medal makers have always taken inspiration from mythological sources. The muscular style of Art Deco medals derived from Neo-classical sculpture. This medal commemorates the State Gas and Electricity companies. One side, by Henri Dropsy, shows a satyr warming himself in front of a wood fire. The other, which bears the name of the person to whom it was awarded, shows gas holders and pylons.
