Place of origin |
Until about 1850 medals in France were largely issued by the state as rewards or for commemoration. This medal in the Art Deco style is typical of an early 20th-century trend for medals sold as small-scale and relatively inexpensive works of art to be bought by individuals. The owner could have an inscription engraved on the blank reverse.
Delannoy (1885-1972) was a sculptor and medallist who studied at the Ecole Germain Pillon. He was a pupil of Valton and Roiné and exhibited at the 1907 Salon in Paris.
