Carpet

1913 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

In 1913 Roger Fry founded the Omega Workshops, a group of artists designing furniture, pottery, carpets, textiles and stained glass. Duncan Grant designed pottery and textiles, like this carpet, for the Workshops. The outbreak of war hindered the venture as artists left to join the war effort and production declined. In 1919 the Workshops were closed. In the 1920s and 1930s Grant collaborated with Vanessa Bell on the production of interior schemes, many completed by rugs, printed furnishings and embroideries.
