This is a perspective view of the capital city of Sweden, Stockholm. It is taken from a grand atlas of cities made by the Dutch printmaker in Amsterdam in around 1700. This was made towards the end of the golden age of Dutch printmaking when the publication of atlases had reached its zenith. It shows an idealised view of the city with charming incidental detail. Below the scene and the coat of arms of Sweden is a laudatory poem, printed in 3 different languages, which indicates its international audience.

Physical description

An engraving of a view of Stockholm, shown in aerial perspective, giving many incidental details of the everyday life of the residents of the city. Below is a poem praising the city translated into Latin, Dutch and French. Above are the coat of arms for Sweden.
