The Lamentation over the Dead Christ

Statuette
1759 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This bronze group is by Johann Baptist Hagenauer (1732-1810), executed in Austria in 1759. It was once questioned that the three separate pieces are belonging together, but given the formal coherence of the group, this doubt can be abandoned. Hagenauer orients himself with this composition on the work of the Austrian sculptor Georg Raphael Donner (1693-1741).
