Panel of embroidered and cut-out figure of Merlin worked in wools and couched gold thread onto a linen ground. The embroidery has a backing edge, which covers the head, of green woollen serge. The figure is dressed in a brown medieval robe with hanging sleeves. He wears a tall hat and carries a globe. There is a girdle at his waist in green and white. The embroidery is worked in long and short stitches in thick wools, and there is some satin stitching and French knots making up the waist girdle and the globe is circled with couched gold thread. The figure has been embroidered and cut-out in preparation for being applied to another ground. Painted with watercolour.
