Ward-Jackson, Peter, Italian Drawings Volume I. 14th-16th century, London, 1979, p. 218. The text is as follows: PARMA: late 16th century 482 The Virgin and Child, with the Infant St John the Baptist, St Joseph and a shepherd or possibly a donor Inscribed in ink ‘Iaco Parmesa’ Pen and ink and wash 8 x 6 ¼ (203 x 158) D.1057-1900 PROVENANCE C. Jourdeuil (Lugt 528); Dalton Bequest 1900 LITERATURE Dalton Catalogue, p. 18 (as style of Jacopo Caraglio) The inscription probably refers to Bertoia rather than Caraglio, judging from the handling of the pen. But the mediocre drawing can hardly be attributed to either artist.
