Oz, an underground magazine, first appeared in Australia in 1963, but a second version was published in London from 1967. It focused on drugs, sex and alternative lifestyles, and offered a critique of mainstream politics. Martin Sharp, one of its founders, gave the magazine a strong graphic identity characterised by swirling psychedelic designs and organic typography. Here the mouth with its bared teeth suggests the magazine’s satirical bite. (11/09/2017)
