Compared with the well known and magnificent 18th century 'baby' or dolls' houses, this little house is very modest in every aspect. It is a miniature version of the type of house that was commonly found in both town and country in the 18th century. By the end of that century toy shops had appeared in most major cities. It is likely that this little house would have been bought in a shop.
