This is an ivory plaque made in ca. 1650 probably by a Netherlandish artist, perhaps active in Spain. This plaque represents a Franciscan Saint translated into heaven by the hands of three angels. The piece is formed from a large piece of ivory near the base of a tusk which has been hollowed out.

Physical description
Ivory carved in high relief, and sunk within the thickness of the tusk, representing a Saint in Franciscan habit being transported to heaven by three angels. At the upper right is a figure of the Virgin on the crescent moon; a church can be seen at the lower left, and other buildings, also including a church, are carved in lower relief on the right.
