This woman's silver amulet case or ga'u is decorated in filigree wire and set with turquoises. The central motif is a stylised lotus bud. Such cases contained rolled prayers and other holy or blessed objects designed to protect the wearer from evil. Such boxes were worn suspended on a strap or sash across the shoulder or around the waist when travelling.
