‘Les Incommodités de Janvier’
London, 1786
The ‘inconveniences’ of the fashions of January 1786 are here revealed in all their absurdity, as a young woman of fashion struggles valiantly forth beneath the weight of an enormous fur muff and an even larger hat. British caricaturists often highlighted the extremes of French fashions, deploring their adoption this side of the channel.
