Anonymous draughtsman A chamberstick and an egg stand. About 1810. Inscribed with prices and other information Pen and ink and wash These drawings come from a pattern book made for a manufacturer of Sheffield, or fused plate. Such pattern books, both drawn and printed, began in the 1770s and enabled manufacturers to sell their goods by post and through agents. By about 1810 pattern book images had switched from straight side views of the pieces to perspective views, as here. These drawings were probably made for the preparation of a printed pattern book.
