Guillaume de Croy (1458–1521) belonged to one of the most illustrious and well-connected families of Brabant in the 15th and 16th centuries. He was Duke of Soria, Marquis of Aarschot and Lord of Chièvres. He was also tutor to the young Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, and was later his counsellor. He married Marie-Madeleine de Hamal.

Guillaume and his wife are shown here kneeling in prayer. They face to the right, with the Croy arms below Guillaume and those of Croy-Hamal below Marie-Madeleine.

The glass was sold from the church at Aarschot, north-east of Louvain, in 1833. The panels found their way to the chapel of Rugby School in Warwickshire.

Brief description
Two panels of clear and coloured glass with painted details and silver stain. Depicting Guillaume de Croy, Marquess of Aerschot, and his wife, Marie de Hamal. Originally from the Onze Lieve, Vrouwkerk in Aarschot. Made, perhaps by Nicolaas Rombouts, in the Brabant, Belgium, about 1520.

Object history
There is a window in St Andrew's Church, Gatton, near Redhill in Surrey that is said to have come from Aarschot.
Production
The window is from the Onze Lieve Vrouwkerk, Aarschot. Brabant, it was procuced was at that time, during the 16th century, part of the southern Netherlands.
