Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Fifteenth century floor tiles from Germany were most commonly decorated with designs in relief, many were futher enhanced by the use of coloured lead glazes. Like this heraldic lion rampant, most of these designs were Gothic in style. The green glaze would originally have covered the entire surface of this tile, but has been worn away on the raised areas of the pattern.
