One of a sequence of casts showing stages in the making of a brooch by Trifari, a leading manufacturer of costume jewellery in Providence, Rhode Island.
This stage shows the brooch after the settings, which will be set with stones, have been painted by hand with an orange masking ('stop-off') paint. This will ensure that the rhinestones will be set properly in the white-coloured metal to enhance their white colour, while other parts of the brooch will be gold-plated.
