This caricature shows Ivor Novello (1893-1951) as Prince Felix in I Lived With You by Ivor Novello at the Brighton Royal Theatre in July 1932. It was drawn by Gilbert Sommerlad (1904-1976), a rehearsal pianist and orchestral violinist at the Brighton Theatre Royal from 1932 until 1936, and at the Oxford New Theatre from 1936 for over forty years. Sommerlad sketched the stars on stage when he wasn't needed in the orchestra pit, compiling the sketches in a series of albums.

Ivor Novello was the Welsh actor, composer, songwriter and dramatist who wrote the popular World War I songs 'Keep the Home Fires Burning', and 'We'll Gather Lilacs'. He took non-singing roles in his highly successful romantic musicals including The Dancing Years (1939) and Perchance to Dream (1945). He appeared in I Lived With You with Ursula Jeans at the St. Martin's Theatre in April 1932, and on the post-London tour.
