Object history | Received from Arracan in 1855 |
Production | 1880 Slip Book states that this garment was received from Arracan in 1855 and goes onto describe it as a man's garment or in local terminology a khess. According to Sabah Husain in Sept 1995 this is an Indian term used to describe a shawl like garment thrown over the shoulders by men in cool weather. Sandra Dudley of the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford in 1999 attributes it probably to the Chin hill people. |
