This is part of a curved frieze showing the Buddha and his monks in the sala grove. The best preserved figure is that of the Buddha himself, enthroned in the centre with his left hand lying on his lap and his right hand-which is broken off- probably once raised in abhayamudra. The monks are sunk in silent meditation.
