Kyllikki Salmenhaara remains one of Finland’s most influential ceramic artists. This piece demonstrates the poise and control that was typical of her work. This type of rough stoneware is sometimes known as ‘chamotte’ and is made by incorporating fired porcelain or stoneware ‘grog’ into the clay, which reduces the shrinkage during firing.
