Hookah base of fritware, oviform, painted in underglaze blue with a Chinese design of herons and clouds. The almost round shape is slightly flattened at the opening and at the base, both of which are encircled by a band of separate square panels. The mouth has an added inner scroll of leaves and florets, and the base a row of linked lappets. Six cranes with open beaks, upturned necks and outstretched legs fly among well-spaced clouds with finials.
