Object history
Who Wears the Breeches is a familiar theme, common in Dutch prints of the 17th century, and also the basis of The Taming of the Shrew. This figure illustrates a contemporary early 19th century poem, recounting how Sammy Spar and Peggy Plumper fought until she was knocked down and led to the church, "... as loving as could be".
