Object history | Who Wears the Breeches is a familiar theme, common in Dutch prints of the 17th century, and also the basis of The Taming of the Shrew. This figure illustrates a contemporary early 19th century poem, recounting how Sammy Spar and Peggy Plumper fought until she was knocked down and led to the church, "... as loving as could be". Robin Hildyard, 19/12/2002. |
