The design is of a landscape, flanked with palm trees to right and left. A strip of water crosses the picture, and behind it are mountains. The border is of very pale yellow and blue fillets alternating with mauve bars. No enamel paint is used. The design is made by the leading. The glass shows great variety of rather soft tones of blue, green, yellow, brown and ruby, some of it being streaked.

Physical description

'Glass roundel Designed by Roger Fry (British, 1866-1944) Made by Lowndes and Drury, (Fulham, London), 1914 Stained and painted glass in a lead framework Given by Donald Hamilton C.80-1950 The short-lived Omega Workshops produced textiles, furniture and ceramics by avant-garde artists. This is the only stained glass by Omega that is known to survive. It is one of to commissioned by General Sir Ian and Lady Hamilton for their house at 1, Hyde Park Gardens. Roger Fry is thought to have based the design on a landscape painting of 1876, 'Les Moissonneurs' by Cézanne.'

Note in Register: Made by Lowndes & Drury in 1914 to a design probably by Roger Fry after Cezanne's 'Les Moissoneurs' of 1876.
Historical context
Note in Register: in the 1974 Arts Council Exhibition, this roundel was attributed to John (Jock) Turnbull.
Note in Register: (5 May 1982) July Collins (writing a book on the Omega Workshop) says the glass was made for 1 Hyde Park Gardens (and not 2 Hyde Park Place as orginally recorded).
