Oil portrait of Ethel Irving as Lady Frederick Berolles, half length. Her body faces the viewer's left but her head is turned towards the viewer's right. She is dressed in turquoise and dark blue, with a wide band of lace at the neckline, the turquoise bodice decorated in gold. She has a maroon hat with a feather. She stands in an interior, painted in shades of beige with, to left, the upper part of a fireplace, on which is a two-branched gold candlestick.

Commissioned by W. Somerset Maughan and given to Ethel Irving in gratitude for her performance as Lady Frederick. Given to the British Theatre Museum Association by Ethel Irving's niece, Mrs McQueen, in December 1964.
