Shoulder Bag

The bag is formed in the traditional way. One length of cloth folded in half (the fold forming the pocket of the bag) stitched to a second length forming the sides and carrying strap.

Red ground interrupted by a series of black, green, white and red coloured warp bands which form a frame for supplementary weft patterning of green; red and white diamonds and yellow zig-zag motifs. These stripes are bisected at the top of the bag with bands of yellow woven in a diamond twill weave.

Object history
Believed to have been acquired by the donor's father while he was resident in Burma during the second half of the 1930s. A fine example of a Chin bag which reproduces the colours and weaving techniques, in smaller dimensions of the Chin blanket (IS 37-1998) which the museum acquired from the same source.
