The panel depicts an early moment in the biblical story of Susannah and the Elders, from the Apocrypha. Susannah, a beautiful and righteous wife, is seated in the garden, adjoining her wealthy husband's house which can be seen in the background, with her handmaidens, surrounded by various birds and animals. Two Elders watch her.
