Merrythought is a British soft toy company based in Ironbridge in Shropshire. The company made this bear during its early years of production. The teddy has a very traditional shape, with velvet-covered paw pads and a hand-stitched nose and mouth. Black glittery buttons have replaced the original glass eyes. There is a voicebox or 'growler' in the bear's tummy but it no longer works. The light colour of the fur, or mohair, is unusual as most bears of this date would have been brown. The teddy is dressed in a cotton suit decorated with pictures of North American totem poles.
