Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Fashion in the 1980s reflected the bravura of booming international economies. It features the wide, padded shoulders and bold trimmings typical of 1980s daywear. The strong colour, chunky gold buttons and wide plaited belt fit well within that decade's vibrant aesthetic. Early on in his career, Victor Edelstein worked for Alexon, Clifton Slimline, Nettie Vogue and Biba. After his first attempt to open his own business in 1970 failed, he worked at Christian Dior in London for three years. He eventually established his own label in 1977, producing only haute couture from 1982 onwards. Edelstein became known for luxurious eveningwear and wedding dresses.
