The slipper style of man's shoe, with its tailored grosgrain bow, has been correct formal evening and dance wear since the late 18th century. Cecil Beaton, who was accustomed to only the finest attire, had his shoes hand-made by John Lobb Ltd. Up to six craftsmen are involved in the making of a pair of their luxurious shoes. Personal wooden lasts ensure a perfect fit. [1997]
