This hat is made up of triangular-shaped panels of straw which have been stitched together. When worn it assumes a pagoda-style shape. The pale-blue ribbon trimmings have faded.

The hat is made using plaited straw and known as Leghorn because a particular type of wheat used which was cut green, bleached and imported from Leghorn in Tuscany, Italy. Lined and trimmed with pale-blue silk satin. strengthened around rim with copper wire.
