Perfect for a party, this extraordinary swirl of a hat was featured on the cover of Tatler magazine’s Christmas 1982 issue. A firmly wired frame ensures that the tilted twist retains its shape. Stephen Jones is the consummate milliner: an inventor with thorough technical expertise. Jones studied at Central Saint Martins School of Art and trained in millinery part-time with Shirley Hex of Lachasse. He opened his Covent Garden shop in 1980.

Sculpted in spiralling, luminous fabrics and delicate featherwork, it perches gracefully on the head, like the plumage of a bird. A graduate of St Martin's School of Art, Stephen Jones is one of the most outrageous and daring of Britain's young milliners. His clientele now ranges from the Princess of Wales to Grace Jones and he also creates hats for several leading designers, including Benny Ong, Zandra Rhodes, Steven Linard, Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler.
