The coat was called 'Aubusson' after the french carpets which inspired the pattern of the heavyweight richly textured fabric. Originally introduced into the Mulberry Home Collection as a furnishing fabric in , it quickly became a top seller. Roger Saul recognised that the large-scale repeat and rich colouring would translate into a magnificent full-length coat. In keeping with its origins, it is finished with furnishing-style tassels.
