Object history
Registered File number 1992/2688.
Kim Bentley and Sally Spens produce individual hand-painted and printed works such as rugs and throws and screen-printed yardage (flat-bed printed by contract printers). They take maximum advantage of the freedom allowed by their manual techniques to produce fresh sparkling designs often inspired by, but not copied from, historical examples. Colour, tradition and modernism are the key elements in the fabrics produced. All fabrics are designed by either Kim Bentley or Sally Spens who 'consider the work to be a joint product', so that everything is credited as being by Bentley & Spens. The production date of each design is when they were put into print, so the actual designs have been painted much earlier.
