Place of origin

Susie Freeman designed this imaginative evening ensemble. It employs her signature 'pocket knitting' technique. She has enmeshed the glittering decorations within a double layer of fabric. Underlayers of taffeta and nylon net create the fullness of the ankle-length skirt. The creative use of knitted structures and the combination of natural and manmade fibres are typical of Freeman's innovative work.

The glittering decorations are enmeshed in a double-layer knitted fabric of fine nylon thread, which is surprisingly soft to the touch. The co-ordinating sleeveless top is cut in one piece from knitted fabric placed horizontally. It is seamed at the centre back and across the shoulders. Susie Freeman makes knitted hangings and a range of costume accessories as well as one-off outfits. Her imaginative use of knitted structure is far removed from traditional image of knitting.
