Representation of the Buddha seated with legs locked in the padmasana (lotus position) on a low, undecorated, triangular base. The right hand is in the bhumisparsa mudra (earth touching or witness attitude) and the left hand rests upturned in his lap in the dhyana mudra (meditation attitude). Following convention the earlobes are extended and the hair is tightly curled rising to an ushnisha (top knot).
Depicted in monastic robes which lie in folds over each knee, the left shoulder and down the front leaving the right shoulder and arm bare. His face is framed by a raised fillet band.

Production
Previously considered ca. 1800. Re-attributed by U Kyaw Zan Tha, Cultural Councillor from Burmese Embassy in London. He believed this piece to be late Konbaung (ca.1860) as it is typical of the elongated Mandalay torso.
