The floating long styles of the early 1970s demanded shoes with high heels to keep hems above the floor and give the wearer additional height. Shoe designers reworked the historical mule styles to suit 1970s trends. Some took platforms to almost unwearable, dangerous extremes, but this pair of light summer mules is of non-threatening height.(1997)
