Ribbed Matt White Bowl

Bowl
1999 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The symmetry of this bowl is interrupted by the spiral ridge which introduces an element of movement and tension. Sarah-Jane Selwood uses various techniques to alter her thrown forms, including cutting and folding the clay. In this case, she has borrowed a technique usually found in metalwork, pressing a tool into the inner surface of the bowl to make a repoussé ridge on the outside.
