Artist/Maker
Place of origin

White porcelain figure of the seated Madonna, constructed from sections moulded from a variety of food containers and similar objects. The work is glazed and decorated with traces of gilding. The overall form of the figure derives from Eglin's study of Northern Medieval woodcarvings, and in particular the Seated Virgin in the V&A (A.8-1912), and in common with this carving, the figure of the infant Christ is "lost", and represented only by a fragmentary foot.
