Physical description

Plate depicting an early Greek warrior. He wears a helmet with a horse-hair crest, a corslet (thorax) and decorated greaves (knemides). He carries a spear and a large round shield (aspis).

Object history note

This image is based on a drawing of a vase formerly in the possession of Sir William Hamilton. The image has been amended slightly: the greaves were plain in the original drawing, and the spear and shield have been supplied from other vases.
