Object history
Purchased by the donor from Mrs. Thunder, 10 St. Oswald's Road, Fulford, York.
It is likely that the window was bought complete in the sash at Peckitt's sale, because the sash was not built into the wall but hinged like a shutter attached to the window on the staircase at Mrs. Thunder's, where it has been for fifty years or more (letter from Mr. J.A. Knowles dated 27 June 1950. See R.P. 50/773).
There can be little doubt that it was Peckitt's showpiece as it measures practically the same as his show painted window in our hall (letter from Mr.J.A. Knowles dated Aug.15 1950. See R>P. 50/2647).
