Place of origin |
Bronze image of the Hindu god Shiva seated on a throne, which is resting on the back of Nandi, Shiva's bull.
Shiva and the bull are cast in one piece, with a separately cast arch behind him. He sits on the bull, facing sideways, holding an axe and deer in his upper hands, with the lower right in abhaya mudra and the lower left possibly in vitaka mudra. All is well modelled and detailed (Nandi is particularly elaborately decorated) but there is little or no wear. Dark brass colour.
