Object history
Gustav Seiden took amateur photographs in the 1930's whilst living in Budapest as an art and antique dealer. He did, however, possess both sophisticated equipment and a thorough knowledge of the visual arts. He exhibited internationally and appeared alongside Edward Weston, Ansel Adams and other talents in the Modern Photography yearbooks of the time. Seiden began to make Modernist images characterised by optical clarity and roving viewpoints but gave up photography during the Second World War because of deteriorating eyesight and lack of materials
